Rafael Alcântara's Biography

Rafael Alcantara do Nascimento was born on 12 March 1993 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he commonly known as Rafinha. He is a Brazilian professional footballer, who plays for Spanish football club FC Barcelona and the international football team Brazil. His playing position mainly as an attacking back midfielder. He offers control and rhythm to the team. In recent seasons he’s consistently provided assists and, despite not scoring many goals, is always a threat in the box. He started his career with Barcelona, and making his debut with the first team in 2011. After a loan at Celta Vigo. He played his first league match for the Catalans in 2014. He represented both Spain and Brazil at youth level.
His father name is Mazinho, who was a famous footballer and a central midfielder, notably winning the 1994 FIFA World Cup with Brazil, and his mother, Valéria, who played volleyball. His elder brother, Thiago , another midfielder – also emerged through Barcelona's youth ranks, going on to represent its first team and the Spanish national side. Thiago now plays for German club FC Bayern Munich.

Rafael Alcântara's current club career

Rafinha joined FC Barcelona's youth ranks at the age of 13. On 8 January 2011, he made his debuts with the FC Barcelona B-team, as coming on substitute for Jonathan dos Santos in the 55th minute of a 1–2 home loss against Girona FC for the second division championship. He has been earning rave reviews and the youngster backed up the hype surrounding his talent by proving himself at the highest level following his fruitful loan spell with Celta Vigo last season. It is widely expected, that he will become a regular for the Barcelona first team in the coming years but for now, the Catalan giants are said to be open to sending out the young man on another loan spell and as a result, Sunderland have expressed their desire in securing the services of the midfielder. He made his professional debut with the Spanish FC Barcelona main squad, on 9 November 2011, taking the place of Cesc Fàbregas for the last 15 minutes of a 1–0 away win against CE L'Hospitalet for the season's Copa del Rey. He finished the league campaign with 39 games – 35 starts – and eight goals for the reserves. On 27 June 2013, He extended his contract with Barça, keeping him at the club until 2016. A few weeks later, he was loaned to fellow La Liga team Celta de Vigo. He netted a brace at Real Sociedad on 23 November, but it amounted to nothing as the hosts won it 4–3 with four goals from Carlos Vela. He made his top flight debut for Barcelona on 24 August 2014 at the Camp Nou, in Luis Enrique's first match in charge. He played the first half of an eventual 3–0 win over Elche CF before being substituted for Marc Bartra.

Rafael Alcântara's Brazil team career

Rafinha played for Spain at youth level, gaining 14 caps for three different teams. In 2012 season, although,  he switched allegiance to Brazil, going on to represent the under-20s at the 2013 South American Youth Championship in Argentina. He was in the Brazil U21 side that played its second friendly this evening in Qatar, beating Palestine 3-0. He provided the assist for one of the goals before substituted after 70 minutes. The deadlock was not easy to break, and after a goalless first half, Palestinian keeper Rami denied Ademilson from the spot. Shortly after, the same player took another penalty, and this time did convert to finally put Brazil ahead. The second goal came, when, he provided an assist to Dória, and Vinicius Araujo finished off the evening with a late third. Rafinha represented both the Spanish FC Barca and Brazil international team at youth level.
